FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions
Online Master of Coaching Education
Will I complete all the courses online?
All of the courses are online, except for the Global Sport Coaching Seminar, for which you are required to come to the Ohio University campus in Athens, Ohio. During this seminar, you can build your professional network by interacting with the program faculty and fellow students face-to-face and complete a 3-credit course. The on-campus visit typically lasts about four days.
Is the GRE required?
GRE scores are not required for qualified applicants. However, if you have already taken the GRE, you may submit the scores with your application.
I have taken a number of graduate courses. Can I transfer those credits to this program?
No. This is a lockstep program, so all students admitted during the same year will start the program together (in the same cohort) and complete the required courses in a sequence.
How long does it take to complete the program?
It will take about 24 months to finish the program.
What is the cost of this program?
The cost per credit hour for in-state students is $571 for a total of $20,556 and for out-of-state it is $590 for a total of $21,240. Fees, books and other learning materials used during the program are not included in the tuition. For the on-campus seminar in Athens, you are responsible for your travel costs, room, breakfast, and special group dinners during your visit. Your Program Manager will help you coordinate room sharing and car-pooling for the seminar.
Do you allow participants to take a few, or a majority of the courses, but not all of the courses required of the whole program?
No. All students admitted will be required to take all courses for the program.
When I graduate, what will my diploma read?
Your diploma will read “Master of Science in Recreation and Sport Sciences with a concentration in Coaching Education.” Your diploma will not say the word “online.”
How many courses will I take at a time?
You take one course at a time during a 7-week period. After a short break, the next 7-week course begins. These two courses make up a single semester. This format carries through the entire program.
How much study time is required?
While every student is different, most students find that the program takes from 8 to 12 hours of study per week.
