No, your diploma will not state that you completed the program online. Your completed degree will be listed on your diploma and transcripts as a Master of Science in Athletic Administration.

Is the Master of Athletic Administration degree the same as a “sports management” degree?
This MAA program is a specific master’s level program that prepares students for leadership careers primarily in interscholastic athletics, which means we focus on preparing students for a career as an athletic director at the high school or middle school levels. While the curriculum shares skills with sports management, sport management is a much broader area of study that may include studying industry areas such as professional sports, college athletics and/or Olympic sports. The Master of Athletic Administration is specialized to provide distinct skills that interscholastic athletic directors need to run a successful program.

Can I enroll in a few courses without being admitted to the MAA program?
No. Students must be admitted to the MAA program in order to be eligible to enroll in courses.

I have taken some graduate courses. Can I transfer those credits to this program?
We can accept some transfer credits if they meet the requirements set by the program director. The courses you have taken will be assessed during the application process. No more than two classes can be transferred.

Will I be able to attain a job as an athletic director with this degree?
The MAA program focuses on preparing students with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to administer a successful interscholastic athletic program. As well, our program faculty and Director will provide you with a variety of tools to help as you get ready to apply for jobs in athletic administration, including a Capstone course that has dedicated time/faculty to assist students in being career ready. However, some institutions and organizations often require certain levels of experience and certification for prospective candidates (such as a principal certification).

Can I earn credits for Leadership Training Courses through the NIAAA?
The MAA program has a close relationship with the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (“NIAAA”) and offers concurrent Leadership Training Course (“LTC”) certifications for several NIAAA LTC courses after completion of the MAA program. The LTC’s themselves are not the same as a Master’s level course, but the materials from several NIAAA LTC’s are used as supporting materials in Ohio University MAA courses. Students pay a discounted fee for the LTC materials/coursework.
