Connie Esmond-Kiger, Ph.D., CPA
Associate Professor of Accountancy
Dr. Connie Esmond-Kiger, CPA, is an Associate Professor in the Ohio University School of Accountancy where she has been teaching for nineteen years. Connie’s passion is curriculum innovation with the goal of engaging and challenging her students as they trek through their learning journey in Accounting. She has a reputation of having high expectations of her students, and also of herself. Connie is the current author of the BAM curriculum for teaching Intermediate Accounting.
Connie served as the Director of the School of Accountancy from 2007 to 2012 and as the faculty advisor for the Ohio University Alpha Kappa Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi from 2001 to 2015. Under her watch, the Chapter consistently won regional and national awards, achieved Superior status annually, and completed more than 13,000 cumulative hours of community service in Athens. In recognition for her service, Connie was named one of five Beta Alpha Psi Outstanding Faculty Advisors at the national level for 2013.
Connie was awarded the 2014 Outstanding Ohio Accounting Educator of the Year by the Ohio Society of CPAs and the Ohio Region of the American Accounting Association. Other awards include the College of Business Senior Class Faculty Recognition Award for 2010, 2007, 2006 and 2005; the Ohio University Presidential Teacher Award for 2007-2010; the College of Business Society of Alumni and Friends Faculty Contribution Award for 2008, the College of Business Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award for 2015, 2006 and 2001,the Ohio University University Professor Award for 2005, the School of Accountancy Advisory Council Faculty Innovation/Activity Award for 2004, and First Place in the Ohio University Center for Teaching Excellence Best Practices Award competition in 2000.
Connie has two B.S. degrees, one in Accounting from Illinois State University and the other in Interior Design from the University of Illinois. She earned her doctorate from Indiana University and her MBA from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Dr. Esmond-Kiger has six years of public accounting experience, including two years with Price Waterhouse in Chicago, and served for two years as the Associate Controller at Dartmouth College. She is married to John Kiger and is the proud mom of two dogs. She attributes much of her success to the support of her family and her great colleagues, and will be forever grateful for their love and friendship, and high expectations. She would also like to give kudos to her fabulous Ohio University students and alums who have allowed her to push them to their limits, and have made her very proud to be a part of their life journey.
